A Well-Organised Junior Triathlon Event

The event was praised for its clear communication, safety standards, and positive atmosphere, setting a benchmark for junior triathlon events in Yorkshire. Competitor information was distributed ahead of time, including detailed course maps, safety rules, and equipment guidance — ensuring every participant arrived prepared and confident.

According to the official British Triathlon report:
“Appropriate and detailed competitor information was made available ahead of the event. Safety, equipment, and rules were made clear, and the course was well presented at registration.”

Parents also appreciated the calm, supportive registration process, with staff described as knowledgeable, cheerful, and reassuring — helping to create a welcoming environment for families new to the sport.

Strong Safety and Course Management

The swim, bike, and run courses were all commended for their safety and organisation. Swim marshals were well briefed, transitions were smooth and clearly marked, and all sections of the course were checked for hazards before the race began.

“The swim manager delivered a clear safety briefing, transitions were well staffed by experienced coaches, and the course signage was excellent,” stated the official event assessment.

British Triathlon described the York venue as an “excellent location for a cycle race” with strong visibility, smooth surfaces, and efficient marshalling throughout.

Teamwork and Supportive Volunteering

The Wakefield Triathlon team and volunteers were recognised for their professionalism and positivity. Most marshals were triathletes themselves, bringing valuable knowledge and enthusiasm to the event.

“Marshals were knowledgeable, effectively managed, and cheerful,” noted the British Triathlon report. “They were well looked after, and personally thanked by competitors and parents.”

Safety and welfare were carefully managed across all areas, with first aid on site, hydration stations available, and shaded areas provided on what was a warm day.

Positive Feedback From Competitors and Families

Competitors and families offered outstanding feedback, praising the supportive environment and high-quality organisation. Many confirmed they plan to return for next year’s event, helping to strengthen the junior triathlon community in Yorkshire.

“Competitors praised the event and said they would return next year. Families stayed for the awards ceremony, creating a genuine sense of celebration and good feeling,” the report stated.

Encouraging the Next Generation of Triathletes

The official British Triathlon assessment concluded: “It is difficult to judge any area of this event as anything other than excellent. The organisers promoted a very healthy and positive experience for all.”

This recognition reflects the commitment of Wakefield Junior Triathlon to providing safe, inclusive, and inspiring opportunities for young people to enjoy triathlon all year round.

The club continues to focus on developing young athletes, offering structured coaching and competitive experiences that build confidence, fitness, and friendships — both on and off the course.
