We’re delighted to share some fantastic news from within the club. Two of our coaches have recently achieved their British Triathlon Level 2 (Group Coach) qualification, marking an important step forward for both them and the future of the club.

Congratulations to Chris and Jane

Chris Moorehouse has been coaching with us for over three years and will be stepping into the role of Head Coach for 2026, taking over from Alex Walsh. This transition reflects not only Chris’s commitment to the club, but also the trust and confidence built through consistent, high-quality coaching over several seasons.

Jane Bailey joined the coaching team around six to twelve months ago and has already become a valued part of our coaching setup. Like Chris, Jane is also a member of the senior triathlon club and has children in the junior section — a pathway that reflects how many of our volunteer coaches first get involved.

This “parents-to-coaches” journey is something we’re incredibly proud of. It brings continuity, empathy, and a strong sense of community into every session we deliver.

What Does a Level 2 (Group Coach) Qualification Mean?

A Level 2 coach, often referred to as a Group Coach, plays a vital role in the club. This qualification goes well beyond supporting sessions and reflects a significant investment in training, learning, and practical experience.

To achieve Level 2 status, coaches must complete:

  • In-depth training across swim, bike, and run disciplines
  • Safeguarding and welfare education
  • Session planning and delivery for mixed-ability groups
  • Ongoing assessment, mentoring, and practical coaching hours
  • First aid and child protection requirements

Level 2 coaches are qualified to plan, lead, and adapt full training sessions, manage groups safely, and support athletes across a wide range of abilities — from those just starting out to more experienced juniors developing their skills.

For the club, this means:

  • Greater coaching capacity
  • Higher-quality, consistent sessions
  • Stronger long-term athlete development
  • More support for our growing membership

A Club That Keeps Evolving

As our club continues to grow and evolve, so does our coaching team. We’re committed to developing coaches from within, supporting volunteers through training, and creating an environment where both athletes and coaches can thrive.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved — whether you’re a parent, senior athlete, or simply passionate about junior sport — we’d love to hear from you. Coaching at this club is incredibly rewarding, and you don’t need prior experience to get started. Support, mentoring, and training are all part of the journey.

If you fancy helping out at this fantastic club, make yourself known to one of the coaches. You never know — you might just help change a young person’s life for the better.

Here’s to the next chapter for our coaching team — and to the many young athletes they’ll continue to inspire.

From about the age of 6 I developed a strong passion for cycling. Not knowing where to start at an early age, my dad signed me up for a trial bike session with the Junior Triathlon club. To say I loved it would be an understatement, it brung out a competitive side in me no one had seen in my earlier sports before this
