As part of our Winter Series 2025, the club enjoyed a brilliant afternoon of swimming, teamwork, and socialising with a well-attended Swim Gala organised by our coach, Chris. The event took place at Scissett Public Swimming Baths, where the club hired the pool exclusively for two hours — giving everyone space to race, play, and cheer each other on.
Around 30 children, aged 8 to 16, took part, representing a wide mix of abilities and experience. The focus of the gala was very much on inclusion, encouragement, and enjoyment, with events designed to allow every swimmer to contribute, regardless of age or speed.
Racing, Relays, and Teamwork
The afternoon began with a series of swim races, where children could test themselves in a supportive, low-pressure environment. This was followed by mixed-age, mixed-ability relay races, with teams swimming different strokes — a great way to build confidence, cooperation, and team spirit.
Beyond the traditional races, the gala also featured a range of fun pool games, which proved just as popular. Teams worked together to collect objects from the pool in large group challenges, while other activities involved “rescuing” team-mates — encouraging problem-solving, communication, and plenty of laughter along the way.
These games are a key part of our Winter Series ethos: keeping training engaging during the colder months while reinforcing core skills and friendships.

A Social Afternoon On and Off Poolside
Once the swimming was finished, the social side of the day continued. Several families headed to a nearby pub around a mile away for a well-earned Sunday lunch and relaxed catch-up. It was a lovely way for parents and children to spend time together away from the pool, strengthening the sense of community that sits at the heart of the club.
Events like this are about more than training and competition. They create opportunities for families to connect, new friendships to form, and younger athletes to feel part of something bigger than just their own session or race.
A Huge Thank You
The Swim Gala was a great example of what our Winter Series is all about — fun, participation, and togetherness, alongside skill development. A big thank you goes to everyone who helped organise the afternoon and supported from poolside.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and a reminder that some of the best club moments happen when sport and social time come together.
